Home Tour Town Activities 2011
Edwardian Wedding Re-enactment: We move forward in time from the Victorian era to Edwardian times for this special event at St. John’s Anglican Church. Come and witness the wedding. Two times to choose from: 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Please present your Victorian Christmas Home Tour ticket to the ushers at the door for free admission into the church. NOTE: You can visit this sumptuously decorated heritage church any time during tour day for a peek inside, but note that ushers may prevent you from disturbing the wedding re-enactments while they are in progress!
Watch for about 25 people in costume (kilts, too!) who are part of the wedding party and listen for the skirl of the pipes to signal the arrival of the bride. A Gaelic address to everyone is part of the ceremony!
If you want to sit in on the wedding re-enactment, please get to the church on time! Plan to be there between 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. for the 11 a.m. wedding, or be there between 12:45 p.m. and 1 p.m. for the 1 p.m. wedding. The wedding will last about 30 minutes (Let’s hope the marriages lasts longer!!!)
A BIG THANK YOU! to Michelle Landriault and the Vankleek Hill Historical Society for making organizing the wedding re-enactments!
The bride will wear her great-grandmother’s 1912 wedding dress. This is a re-enactment of the 1912 wedding of Grace Margaret Fraser to George Owen Higginson. Watch for the bridge and groom as they drive through town in a vintage car after the wedding. The sign in the car will say: “Just Married!”
